Ray started with the Volvo Group in March 1988, and hasn’t looked back since.

“I first worked in the Mack National Parts Warehouse as a storeman, and then in ’94 I was asked to head up the parts depar^tment of the new dealership in Townsville. It was a great opportunity so I moved the family up there, and we came back down to Brisbane in 2004, when this role of Parts Manager came up,” explains Ray.

Ray now heads up a team of 14 with 11 in parts, and 3 out in the storeroom.

“We’re all part of the Volvo Group dealer network, so the dealerships have a good working relationship with each other. We’ll share inventory with other dealerships. At the end of the day, we just want our customers to get the part they need, as soon as they can.”

“If no one in the area has the part, we’ll do all we can to source the part as soon as possible from our main parts distribution warehouse in Minto, New South Wales,” says Ray.

Working with the parts day in and out means Ray sees the same sort of common wear and tear all too often, and has a simple solution.

“It’s better to bring the truck in for a new part before it breaks down roadside. It’s much cheaper to replace a part than it is to get a tow, it just makes sense.”
